【摘要】:Radiumisoneofthemostradiotoxicelements.Itsisotopeofmass226isthemosthazardousbecauseofitslonghalf-life.Theisotopes223and224,althoughnotashazardous,areofsomeconcerninappraisingthequalityofwater.Thealpha-particle-emittingisotopesofradiumotherthanthatofmass226maybedeterminedbydifferenceifradium-226ismeasuredseparately,suchasbyTestMethodD3454.Notethatonefinds226Raand223Ratogetherinvariableproportions(5,6),but224Radoesnotnormallyoccurwiththem.Thus,223Raoftenmaybedeterminedbysimplysubtractingthe226Racontentfromthetotal:andif226Raand223Raarelow,224Ramaybedetermineddirectly.Thedeterminationofasingleisotopeinamixtureislessprecisethanifitoccurredalone.1.1Thistestmethodcoverstheseparationofdissolvedradiumfromwaterforthepurposeofmeasuringitsradioactivity.Althoughallradiumisotopesareseparated,thetestmethodislimitedtoalpha-particle-emittingisotopesbychoiceofradiationdetector.Themostimportantoftheseradioisotopesare223Ra,224Ra,and226Ra.Thelowerlimitofconcentrationtowhichthistestmethodisapplicableis3.7x10-2Bq/L(1pCi/L).1.2Thistestmethodmaybeusedforabsolutemeasurementsbycalibratingwithasuitablealpha-emittingradioisotopesuchas226Ra,orforrelativemethodsbycomparingmeasurementswitheachother.Mixturesofradiumisotopesmaybereportedasequivalent226Ra.Informationisalsoprovidedfromwhichtherelativecontributionsofradiumisotopesmaybecalculated.Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.Foraspecificprecautionarystatement,seeSection9.
